News: “this old haunt”: a New Musical in Concert October 3rd at The Green Room 42

The Green Room 42 presents the first New York City performance of song selections from this old haunt, a new musical with a folk-infused score that explores the ever-shifting nature of female friendship. After a decade apart, four friends reunite at their high school choir teacher’s cabin deep in the woods of Stowe, Vermont. As they slip in and out of time, they confront past losses, triumphs, and everything in between, ultimately facing the choice of whether to continue drifting apart or find a way back to each other.

this old haunt has been developed at Carnegie Mellon University and Fort Salem Theatre. It has gone on to become a finalist for 2024’s Write Out Loud competition, be selected to appear in the 2023 Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance’s New Works Collaboration Catalog, have a 29-hour reading with Tisch New Theatre at NYU, be featured in the Latiné Musical Theatre Lab & Prospect Theater Company’s New Musicals Mixtape Concert at Chelsea Factory, and be selected as a Finalist for Parlando School of Musical Arts’ 2024 New Musical Project.

this old haunt features a score by Maggie Kane and Dillon Feldman (Finalist for Write Out Loud). Kane (she/her) is an NYC-based songwriter and actor who has also co-written for artists such as Fleetwood Kelly. Currently, she is working on her first EP at Grey Studios, with Producer Ariel Alexa Arellano. She is a graduate of George Mason University and the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. Feldman's (He/Him) original musical Siren held a 29-hour AEA reading at 54 Below in April 2022, directed by Elena Araoz and produced by Con Limón Productions in association with The Shubert Organization. Siren (semi-finalist, 2023 Eugene O’Neill NMTC) was developed in part at La Porte Peinte Residency in Noyers, France, and Untitled Writing Group in NYC. Feldman has also composed an original folk/MT score to a new adaptation of the German folk tale “Allerleirauh,” which held an NYC workshop at the Alvin Ailey Theater in March of 2023; and his work has also been performed at (or in affiliation with) 54 Below, GR42, Chelsea Factory, Playthings Theatre, Write Out Loud, UpNext Theatre, and Out Front Theatre Company, among others.

The book for this old haunt is by SMJ (they/them), a mixed-Latiné, non-binary, and NYC-based playwright, theatermaker, and educator originally from Mount Vernon, OH. They were a 2022-2023 Dramatists Guild Foundation Fellow. As of November 1, 2024, they will be the Co-Artistic Director of Andy’s Summer Playhouse in Wilton, NH, and their work has been seen in various forms with Ars Nova, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, New York Stage and Film, National Queer Theater, Latinx Playwrights Circle, Latiné Musical Theatre Lab, The Orchard Project, Carnegie Mellon University, New York University, Wright State University, and Art House Productions. Direction for this old haunt is by Rebecca Wahls, who directs, writes, and produces film, theatre, and new media. Her first feature film, Him, premiered at the Sedona International Film Festival, she is the Artist in Residence at Duke University, and has served as Artistic Associate for Acting for Young People since 2015 as well as founded the non-profit theatre Who What Where Productions in 2017.
