News: Free NYSX Event: Shakespeare and Immigrant Voices in Conversation, October 22

Birds of a Feather, by Banksy New York Shakespeare Exchange (NYSX) - internationally known for its The Sonnet Project (in which more than 1,500 volunteer filmmakers from around the world have joined the discussion by creating short films in New York locations based on all 154 Shakespeare sonnets), as well as its mainstage productions and ShakesBEER pub crawls - has announced its next Freestyle Lab, title "To Undreamed Shores: Shakespeare and Immigrant Voices in Conversation," which will take place on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 7pm at the 53rd Street Library Theater (18 W. 53rd Street, NYC). This event is free, but reservations are requested at www.NYSX.org . "To Undreamed Shores" features an ensemble of immigrant and first-generation actors presenting excerpts from Shakespeare and contemporary poets, playwrights, essayists, and politicians - all with the focus on themes of immigration. News: Free World Premiere Staged Reading of New York Shakespeare Exchange's "The Card Play" on September 24

The New York Shakespeare Exchange has announced the world premiere staged reading of  The Card Play , a "new theatrical experiment" by  NYSX's Resident Dramaturg Shane Breaux and Resident Playwright Kevin Brewer , in partnership with the 53rd Street Librar y (18 W. 53rd Street, NYC). Th e reading will take place on  Tuesday, September 24, 2019  from 7-9pm (doors open to audience at 6:30pm). This event is free . NYSX describes the play: "The Card Play , co-written by Shane Breaux and Kevin Brewer, explores the power and fallibility of memory by following Mark, a painter, through the twists and turns of his life. The event is free  and will take place on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 7-9 pm (doors open to the audience at 6:30 pm) at the 53rd Street Library Theater (18 W. 53rd Street, NYC). Coming between Memorial Day and the start of Pride Month, ARMOR AS STRONG will feature a group of actors from New York's trans/gender non-conforming community performing speeches and short scenes featuring some of Shakespeare's best known soldiers. News: New York Shakespeare Exchange's ShakesBEER Pub Crawls on May 11 and 18

Photo credit: Martin Harris New York Shakespeare Exchange (NYSX) , creators of The Sonnet Project  short film series in addition to its full productions of Shakespeare, will hold its next two ShakesBEER pub crawl events on May 11 and May 18, 2019 from 3-6 pm. The pub crawl begins at The Gaf (401 West 48th Street, NYC) at 2:30 pm and subsequently moves to 123 Burger, Shot, Beer (738 10th Ave, NYC), The Waylon (736 10th Ave, NYC), and Perdition (692 10th Ave, NYC).  These immersive experiences include a short scene with time afterwards for imbibing at each stop on the crawl. As veterans of several ShakesBEERs, we can personally attest to them being a great time and a unique way to take in some Shakespearean drama.  This iteration is themed around "The Games We Play!" and will explore some of the great challenges, contests, and competitions in Shakespeare's most troubled dramatic relationships, including scenes from Hamlet , 1 Henry IV , The Merchant of Venice ,...
